Top 10 495/Metrowest Transportation Nightmares

Introduction

The 495/MetroWest region has experienced significant growth over the past decade, which has contributed to growing transportation challenges. When polled by the MetroWest Daily News, residents noted that the following are not just areas of concern, but their "Top 10 Transportation Nightmares." The 495/MetroWest Partnership, a nonprofit economic development organization serving 34 communities, issued this list earlier this summer as it seeks to address regional needs through public-private collaboration.

Goals

Focusing on the region's transportation challenges, the goal is to bring solutions and resources on behalf of our public and private sector stakeholders. By alleviating regional constraints and limitations, the 495/MetroWest region can advance as a cohesive, competitive, and premier location for people, businesses, and communities. As part of the 495/MetroWest Partnership's mission, we will continue our focus on strengthening the region's transportation networks over the next ten years—and well into the future.

Past Nightmares

In 2004, the 495/MetroWest Partnership and MetroWest Daily News worked together on the nomination process for the original "Top 10" list, which identified the 495/MetroWest's transportation priorities and advocated for solutions. As a result of commitment from Governer Patrick/Murray/previous administrations, MassDOT, and the Partnership, the region has benefitted from several studies and plans, new transit options, construction projects, and infrastructure improvements across modes and municipalities.
